Our vegetable garden is finally underway, and that means there are bees buzzing around our yard constantly now. Big Kid has been weary of bees since she got stung 2 years ago, and she is also always nervous because I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting the same summer she got stung. However, she also understands how important they are to our fruit and vegetable plants.

“The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter” is the perfect book for a child (or adult) weary of bees.  Written as a love letter to his children and bees, Shabazz Larkin, beautifully weaves together facts and his children’s playful antics using rhyme to explain just how important bees are to the delicious food we eat.

Larkin created the illustrations in this unique picture book using photographs of himself and his two sons.

Have you read this book yet? Either way you should check out Shabazz’s website where you can see a recording of “The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter”.

Thank you to Publisher Spotlight and Readers to Eaters for sending it to me last fall for review. It is finally “bee time” here again, and I’m so excited to share it with you!
