Picture Books of a Single Poem

These special picture books have taken a single, famous poem and paired it with gorgeous illustrations to create the ultimate reading experience.

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost & Vivian Mineker – expertly crafted illustrations showing life’s journey, and the result of choices made, are paired with Frost’s famous poem about taking the road less traveled. This would be a great book to use to to start a conversation about interpreting poetry.

Life Doesn’t Frighten Me by Maya Angelou, Jean-Michael Basquiat & Sarah Jane Boyers – An empowering poem, written by Angelou with art by Jean Michel Basquiat, about common fears even young children might have and how you can stare fears in the face to overcome them.

The Spider and the Fly by Mary Hewitt & Tony DiTerlizzi – This is a cautionary tale, basically a fable, showing exactly why one should be weary of strangers who flatter. A cunning spider spots a fly and tries every way he can think of to convince her to come into his house. She is smart enough to resist his charm until he starts complimenting her shiny wings and dazzling beauty. As anticipated, she ends up a ghost fly by the end of the tale. The writing is rich and so fun to read aloud.
