Lesson 4 Learning Seashore Animals

Anyone feeling crabby? We finished up lesson 4 of Learning Seashore Animals from Simple Studies with The Burgess Seashore Book for Children yesterday and learned all about crabs.

After we practiced walking like crabs, we did some crab symmetry puzzles and looked at the anatomy of a crab (I learned a lot from that one) both from Little Spark Company.

We also read these two books recommended in Learning Seashore Animals.

In One Tide Pool: Crabs, Snails and Salty Tails by Anthony D. Fredericks – A frolicking cumulative rhyme about the community of creatures who live in a tidepool and a girl who observes them. The illustrations are brilliant, drawing little ones in to get a closer look. Back matter contains information about all the species featured in the story.

The Crab Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta – A stunningly illustrated book featuring one crab species for each letter of the alphabet. Facts about each crab species are also given. We really enjoyed looking at all the illustrations in this book.

I also thew in Little Crab so Little Kid would feel included. It’s an adorable little finger puppet book about a crab who rescues a fish from a net.
