Apple Pie and an Announcement

What do you do while you’re waiting for your apple pie to bake? You read apple pie books of course!

This morning Big Kid and I baked an apple pie using the apples we picked at the farm last week. She had been looking forward to this special time together all week.

While waiting for the pie to bake, and distract ourselves from the smells coming from the kitchen, we sat down with a small pile of books about apple pie.

We read:

The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall & Shari Halpern – This one is perfect for toddlers and preschool aged children. The story follows a set of siblings, and a family of robins in their apple tree as the seasons change. This was Big Kid’s favorite this year.

The Apple Pie That Papa Baked by Lauren Thompson & Jonathan Bean is a cumulative tale about the pie a father bakes for his daughter, and how the world helps make that pie. We poured over the illustrations to get even more out of the story.

How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman is a gem that tells the story of a girl who finds the market closed when she wants to bake an apple pie. She travels the world collecting just the right ingredients before heading home to bake. You can do soooooo much with this one, which leads to my announcement…

I’ve decided to use my love of children’s literature, along with my teacher skills to create Lit Bits, a way you can enhance the experiences you’re already having with your kids by using literature, then extend the learning a little more.

Lit Bits include:

  • when to use the book
  • why to use the book
  • a summary of the book
  • discussion ideas
  • extension ideas
  • printables for extension ideas
  • what to read if you liked this book

If you’re going apple picking, baking an apple pie, learning about world geography, or just love to read fun stories, check this one out! You can purchase here on Teachers Pay Teachers.

Please let me know what you think. I’d like to release a new one of these each month using a seasonal book.

What’s your favorite book to read while waiting for an apple pie to bake in the oven?
